Rain water runoff flows from our stormwater catch basins to the retention ponds. This runoff contains super-nutrients from grass clippings, leaves and other non-dissolved solids and will remain while the natural action of nature begins to breakdown the harmful components. Much of the water will evaporate but some of it will slowly percolate down through the soil where it returns to the Floridan Aquifer. Out-flow from the stormwater pond flows on to our rivers and streams. In theory the pollutants consisting of heavy metals and other surface pollutants would have been captured in the sediment of the ponds or the vegetation would have consumed the nutrients thereby allowing a better quality of out-flow into our rivers, streams and ponds.
